Dessert hummus – a healthy treat to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings. It’s high in fibre and a source of protein.

Yes you read that title correctly! My recipe to share with you is dessert hummus. It’s a sweet dip that tastes like chocolate chip cookie dough. You can eat it straight up with a spoon or use it as a dip for sliced apples.

The secret to getting this dessert hummus very creamy is to remove all of the skin from the chickpeas. You also want to make sure you drain and rinse them under cold water a few times to make them easier to digest and less gas producing.

It can be easier to meet your fibre recommendations when you regularly include beans and legumes in your diet. Chickpeas provide about 12g of fibre per 1 cup. Females and males over the age of 19-50 years old require 25 and 38g fibre, respectively.  Females are males over the age of 50 are recommended to have 21 and 25g per day, respectively.

Dessert Hummus (AKA Edible Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough)

Ingredients

  • 1 can no-salt added chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter
  • 2-3 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp mini chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the chickpeas with cold water and remove the skin of the chickpeas.

  2. Place chickpeas, peanut butter, maple syrup or honey and vanilla extract in a food processor. Blend for a few minutes. If the mixture becomes too thick, add water 1 tbsp at a time until it blends more easily. The consistency should be close to that of hummus. Blend until smooth.

  3. Transfer to a bowl and stir in chocolate chips. Serve cold. Enjoy!
