Nut-free, vegan, no bake healthy energy bites. Enjoy these as a pre-workout snack or to curb your appetite between meals.

Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds. It has a smooth and creamy consistency like natural peanut butter. It is known for being used in hummus! But did you know you can use it instead of nut butters like peanut or almond butter in energy bite recipes? It works out well and will make these snacks school safe (just make sure you also use nut-free chocolate chips)

You can find tahini at most grocery stores in the condiments or international foods section. Bulk barn has it sometimes too.

Plus, tahini is a source of calcium and healthy fats.

Servings 18 bites

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup quick oats
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2-3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 3 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 1 mashed, ripe banana

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mash banana with a fork. Add the tahini and maple syrup and stir. Add the oats, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds and chocolate chips and mix. Cover and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Remove from the fridge and roll into 1-inch balls. Makes about 16-18 bites. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or in the freezer for about 2 months

  3. The consistency for you may vary depending on the size of the banana you use or the consistency of the tahini. If the mixture is too wet to form into balls after placing in the fridge, add more oats. If it is too dry, add more tahini.
